British automotive firm Delphi is to confident in its autonomous car that it's going to let it travel a ridiculous 3,500 unassisted miles across the US, starting near San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge in March 22 before making its way all the new to New York.
The trip isn't merely for publicity but will help Delphi further test and develop its safety technologies. These technologies will enable the vehicle to instantly make complicated decisions such as stopping and moving through crossroads, timing merging onto highways and safely maneuvering around cyclists. The vehicle will also be challenged to navigate difficult weather conditions, varying terrain and road hazards.
