Bafang has launched a new automatic bike transmission system that it hopes will simplify the process of riding e-bikes. The transmission has three speed options, which are selected automatically based on sensors that determine the current speed of the wheels. This results in e-bikes that function similarly to automatic vehicles where switching gears is no longer a concern.
The three speeds are geared for the needs of urban commuters with one for slow flat speeds, one for uphill, and one for fast flat speeds. Bafang stated that this transmission system can also be used for manual pedal bikes, but it was designed specifically for simplifying e-bike uses. The automatic transmission system is compatible with motors up to 80Nm of torque in strength, meaning the transmission can be applied to a long list of urban-focused e-bikes.
