If you are a fan of old school computer games and like to feel rewarded when you throw away your garbage, you will seriously dig this augmented reality trash can. The TetraBIN offers positive motivation for binning items by gamifying garbage disposal.
The bin monitors input using three internal infrared beams. So when someone throws something out into the receptacle, sensors are triggered that activate an LED light display on the exterior cylindrical screen. Essentially, every time you drop something in, the trash turns into a Tetris piece. There are even speakers inside the augmented reality trash can that play retro video game sounds.
Created by University of Sydney's Design Lab alumni Sam Johnson and Steven Bai, the TetraBIN media installation also incorporates the concept of the Internet of Things.
