Having attended an international boarding school, I know that Koreans love their Kimchi, a spicy, pickled, fermented cabbage dish. It’s one of those foods that’s either loved or hated.
Just about all of them simply adore it, so it’s not such a surprise that South Korean researchers have invested millions of dollars to create a version of their favourite dish that can be taken to space.
Before they ship their first astronaut to space, they’re ensuring he’s launching into orbit with all his favourite foods. They’ve also concocted space-friendly ramyeon and fermented soybean soup.
"This will greatly help my mission," said Korean astronaut Ko San. "When you’re working in space-like conditions and aren’t feeling too well, you miss Korean food."
The idea really is out of this world, yet it’s not far-fetched. Space travel is posed to become a common form of luxury travel for the future.
