A team of scientists and engineers working out of Washington State University have invented a high-tech assistive robot that is designed to offer seniors the physical assistance they require, when they require it.
Dubbed the Robot Activity Support System, this particular robot has a wheeled mechanism that allows it to move unhindered through residences. The robot stays in communication with an array of sensors that are scattered around the dwelling, which enable it to figure out where the person is located.
The robot can then either lead the person to where they need to go or can show them videos to help them how to perform the task they need to complete.
While the application of robotics towards assisting seniors is now new, what makes this assistive robot unique is its proactive rather than reactive approach.
