The Minneapolis Institute of Art Celebrates 100 Years with Art Bikes

People regularly reinterpret classic pieces of artwork, some by incorporating pop culture figures, and now some are turning masterpieces into art bikes. The Minneapolis Institute of Art is celebrating its centennial anniversary with Handsome Cycles. I'm not sure if a 100 year anniversary means giving art, but that appears to be what's happening here.

Local bicycle builder Handsome Cycles created three art bikes that represent three artistic pieces in two-wheeler form. This includes modern versions of the Hans Ledwinka Tatra T-84 Four-Door Sedan (1948), Grainstack, Sun in the Mist by Claud Money (1891) and a 1969 Frank Stella Tahkt-i-Sulayman (Variation II).

Artisans and designers including Dirt Design Graphics, KNOCK, TREAT AND COMPANY and Peacock Groove were commissioned to help with this artsy endeavor. Each of the bicycles is also fully functioning and ridable.
