The 2014 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is the design feat of Chilean architect Smilijan Radic and is set to open to the public for June 26th. Every year since 2000, the Serpentine Gallery selects one top architect to design a pavilion located outside of the gallery.
Radic's architectural vision for the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion centers around the gallery's reptilian name. Radic designed a semi-translucent coiled cylinder structure. The structure resembles a giant curved sea shell as well as the body of a sleeping snake. Inside the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is set to be an interactive social space where visitors are encouraged to hang out and enjoy the scenery. The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion will also host numerous gallery-related events such as the Park Nights that will bring together art, music and poetry for visitors to enjoy.
