Katie Crawford Depicts Anxiety Disorders Through These Self-Portraits

Katie Crawford educates people about anxiety awareness through the art of photography. Crawford has been battling with this mental illness since the age of 11. She says that, "trying to explain a mental illness to someone who's never experienced it is like trying to explain color to a blind person."

This visually stunning collection of self-portraits expresses what it's like to experience panic attacks and feel exhaustion and abnormality. Each image is charged full of emotion. Saran wrap is used to cover her mouth to emphasize her silent struggles and consistently breathless feelings.

Crawford will raise anxiety awareness though these photographs that are paired with the words "begin to express the constant, overwhelming presence of anxiety. It's not always terrifying, it's not always strong, and it's not always intense, but it's always close by." Her hope to that these images will aid society in addressing mental illness at the same capacity as physical illness.
