The Ansel Adams Wilderness photo series captures the landscape that inspired the famed American photographer and environmentalist throughout his lifetime. It is no wonder that Adams is still considered one of the nation's greatest advocates for conservation considering how breathtaking these scenes are. Even in black and white, the beauty cannot be diminished.
Shot by Peter Essick for National Geographic, the Ansel Adams Wilderness photo series is currently being released as a book to mark the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964. Borrowing Adams' style, Essick reveals, "He believed in what he called the western tradition of 'passing along' his knowledge. I learned a lot about photography from reading his camera manuals and looking at his photographs." Most importantly, he adopted Adams' love of nature and desire to protect it.
