Bicycles can now leave travelers feeling completely eco-conscious with the advent of smooth sailing bikes like the Thornet Bike by Andy Martin. An architect from London, Martin set out to create a bike made of bent wood and had to be created using a complex steam-bending process.
The Thornet's skeleton is made predominantly of beech and this light-colored wood contrasts beautifully with its black wheels and chain making the cycle easy on the eyes as well as easy on Mother Nature. The Thornet Bike is a fixed-gear bicycle which means that it cannot coast and must always be pedaled. Therefore, as an ode to the traditional style of biking the Thornet does not include brakes. Andy Martin's road masterpiece may please the environment, but will definitely empty one's pockets as it will be available in limited edition at $69,608.
