Up until very recently, Android Auto was only available as an aftermarket unit from Pioneer. Now thanks to Hyundai, the Google-powered interface can be integrated in its production vehicles, starting with the 2015 Sonata with Navigation models, if the consumer chooses to go forward with it. Since Android Auto is meant to assist drivers in place of less safe smartphones, this is an encouraging development.
Andrew Brenner, the lead product manager for Android Auto, observes, "Our digital life is so important these days. ... People don't want to leave their connectivity and link to the outside world when they get in the car." The touchscreen display comes with Hyundai's own navigation and entertainment interface. For now, the Android Auto system only works with a Lollipop-powered Android phone
