Eccentric Green Spaces

The American Philosophical Society Greenhouse is Postmodern

When Jenny Sabin created her latest project, the American Philosophical Society greenhouse, she wanted to leave behind an imprint of our digital generation. Sabin, an Associate Professor in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University, sardonically imagines a future era where people will be fascinated with the relics of our computer age.

Constructed entirely of recycled and recyclable materials, the American Philosophical Association greenhouse is an attempt to meld postmodern architecture with eco-friendly design features. The greenhouse is digitally equipped, with cabinets displaying images of ceramic art objects which draw ideas from different forms in nature.

After viewing this elaborate piece of architecture, one must think that the limitations Sabin sets do not bound her to traditional design methods.
