Alliant Energy Announces Major Expansion of Minnesota Wind Farm to 351 MW

Alliant Energy Corp announced plans to expand its Bent Tree wind farm in Minnesota, increasing its capacity from 201 MW to 351 MW. This ambitious project will involve installing additional turbines capable of generating roughly 150 MW.

Located near Albert Lea in Freeborn County, the Bent Tree wind farm's 122 turbines, commissioned in February 2011, currently power around 53,000 households annually. The expansion will boost this capacity, providing electricity to at least 60,000 homes each year.

Alliant Energy plans to submit its planning application later this year or in 2025, with construction potentially starting in the second quarter of 2027. The new turbines are expected to be operational by the last quarter of 2027.

As the third largest utility owner-operator of regulated wind in the US, Alliant Energy continues to enhance its renewable energy portfolio, serving approximately one million electric and 425,000 natural gas customers in Iowa and Wisconsin.
