The new Maid of the Mist all-electric boats have been unveiled by the Niagara Falls sightseeing company as a way to curb emissions and bring about a more sustainable experience for travelers.
The catamaran-like boats are presently being constructed in Wisconsin and feature onboard lithium-ion battery packs that power the engines. The batteries can reach 80% capacity in seven minutes, which would limit downtime for the vessel and increase turnaround for sightseers to appreciate.
Maid of the Mist President Christopher M. Glynn spoke on the new all-electric boats saying, "It makes perfect sense for Maid of the Mist to be a world leader with the implementation of this green technology. The new vessels will carry our guests to the base of Niagara Falls, one of the world's largest sources of clean hydroelectric power."
