Delightfuly Decayed Captures

Alessandro Puccinelli Photographs the Composting Process

Portuguese photographer Alessandro Puccinelli recently shot a series of four photographs titled, 'SAFI: The art of making compost.'

As its name suggests, the series finds a surprising beauty in decaying objects. From tissue paper to rotten bananas to dead leaves, Puccinelli curiously evokes a sense of life. However, when one thinks about this, it is not so strange or ironic.

Although things like rotting fruit and dead leaves might not immediately conjure images of growth and life, such bio-matter, when composted, provides nourishment for plants and worms. It is from the things that Puccinelli photographs that life can be born.

In a world where litter is ubiquitous, it may do people well to see the practical and even aesthetic value of natural trash, even if it is not readily apparent at first.
