Williams Advanced Engineering has teamed up with Aerofoil Energy to come up with a commercial refrigerator accessory that could help reduce the energy consumption of big supermarket refrigerators by as much as 41.5%. The add-on can easily be clipped onto existing cabinets, so supermarkets can upgrade their stores without having to purchase entirely new systems.
The Aerofoil technology can be attached to refrigerator shelves, manipulating air flow in order to keep the cool air inside. This means units don't have to consume as much energy just to be able to produce at the required temperature.
The product, which is still under development, utilizes the Williams Formula One team's experience and expertise in aerodynamic design and testing and brings it to the seemingly scarcely related world of commercial refrigeration.
