French artist Baptise Debombourg recently completed his 'Aerial Installation' inside Brauweiler Abbey near Cologne, Germany. The giant art project took more than 420 hours to complete, but the effort was well worth it.
An entire wall of the Benedictine Monastery is covered in glass, spreading out from windows then along the floor like some miniature glacier creeping its way slowly but inevitably across the abbey. A word that immediately comes to mind when looking at this installation is "frozen." This frozen quality comes from more than just the resemblance of glass and ice though.
There is a definite sense of motion to the artwork; however, that sense of motion is put on hold. One feels like time has come to a stop. This creates a decidedly surreal atmosphere.
