Katharina Grosse is an artist that experiments with spray paint materials, and her recent project entitled Rockaway! utilizes bright technicolor hues of pink, orange and red paint to coat abandoned homes in New Orleans.
Since the devastation caused in New Orleans by Hurricane Sandy, the Rockaway beach area is ridden with areas that are left entirely deserted. Grosse's art project on the Fort Tilden area is designed to bring awareness to the landscape as well as its history. The project will showcase the home now left empty and riddled with graffiti redesigned using abstract spray painting with a mix of hues, as a way to bring a sense of life back into the space through color. Grosse's work will be amongst other creatives aiming to also use art to raise awareness about Hurricane Sandy.
