$199 3G iPhone is Twice as Fast

Steve Jobs has finally revealed the much anticipated 3G iPhone at WWDC 2008. The phone will be available on July 11 with the 8GB model being priced at a fantastically low $199, while the 16GB model (available in black or white) will sell for $299. The new "IT" phone features thinner edges, a full plastic back, flush headphone jack, GPS, and of course, the just announced iPhone 2.0 firmware. Apple, you rock!

Apple promises that the 3G wait was worth it, claiming its 3G speed squashes the competition, with "pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 7." As for GPS, Apple is using A-GPS, which "supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers." The battery provides 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio.

Pre-orders are already available at the Apple Store, with Apple aiming to launch the new iPhone in 70 countries in 2008.
