Portugal-based artist Artur Bordalo has decorated the streets of Lisbon with his stunning 3D animal graffiti. When viewed from afar, the sculptures simply appear to be beautifully painted murals. However, a closer look at the art reveals the texture of man-made detritus.
Bordalo's 3D sculptures are made almost entirely from the trash and waste materials he gathered from abandoned favorites and local companies. Some of the materials featured in the animal graffiti include damaged car bumpers, old tires, singed garbage cans and broken appliances. The use of these objects is symbolic in that Bordalo hopes to raise awareness about how our wasteful habits are impacting our ecosystem. As Bordalo explains, "the idea is to depict nature itself, in this case animals, out of materials that are responsible for its destruction."
