The 2D/3D Chair is a mind-boggling art installation created by Yoichi Yamamoto Architects for an Issey Miyake store in Tokyo. The installation mixes 2D and 3D art to create a curious set of chairs that look as if they are built into the floor.
You might be surprised to hear this, but the 2D/3D Chair installation was actually created to advertise hats! From one angle, these chairs appear to be perfectly normal, their seats white and their legs standing on the floor. A closer inspection reveals (surprise) that only the tops of these chairs are real, with the bottoms cleverly painted on. 3D art on a 2D surface is becoming more and more common these days, but this is the first time I have ever seen it used to market a product. Here's hoping that other stores pick up on this trend and run with it to make either their stores more fun or to market their products.
