As part of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mercedes-Benz has commissioned a colossal artwork featuring one of the automaker's classic vehicles: the 1979 G-Class. In a symbolic gesture referencing the enduring design DNA that runs through every Mercedes-Benz vehicle, the company hired a team to encase an entire 1979 G-Class in a giant block of synthetic amber resin.
Famously, an amber-encased mosquito was the tipping point for the original 'Jurassic Park' film. The G-Class, which is held in 44.4 tonnes of resin, makes explicit reference to "the natural phenomenon of insects preserved in amber", and the classic blockbuster film seems only one logical step away. Fittingly, one of the newest models of the G-Class was revealed on the set of 'Jurassic World', the reboot of the original film franchise.
