The #177 Stretched Steel Table may seem simple enough at first, until the viewer glances down at the ratchet strap secured to the bottom of it. Creating a state of tension, this bold blue strap pops out against the stark white color of the rest of the table. Since it is only supported at the ends, the ratchet strap brings the base of the legs together, allowing the frame to act as a lever in order to pull the very thin sheet of steel on top tight with 30 tonnes of force. This, as the designer points out, is the equivalent of two double decker buses.
Created by United Kingdom-based furniture designer Tom Cecil, the #177 Stretched Steel Table boasts a powder-coated finish in Papyrus White.
