$10 Laptops?

India Typo Leads to False Rumors

The government of India announced it would be launching a $10 laptop, a dream for any even slightly computer savvy person on a budget.

Sound too good to be true? That's because it is. The laptop is really selling for $100, which is still a fabulous deal. The rumors of a $10 computer stemmed from a typo in a speech right up which was missing an additional zero.

India's minister, D. Purandeswari, read the script as was at a conference in Delhi, misinforming the public on the debut of a $10 PC for students.

It really wouldn't have been that surprising since India has zoned in on rolling out cheap innovations. The Tata Nano, for example, is a car that will sell for as low as $1,000. You can read more on this eco and wallet-friendly innovation below.
