I am a Journalism Student at the University of King's College in Halifax, NS but I was born and raised in Toronto. I am a foodie who loves to both cook, explore new food and stuff my face! I'm also a self professed movie buff, art lover, and DIY-er. With all my interests, I try to connect what I love to the world around me, to find out what life is like on the other side of the world and find out the small ways that I can make a difference.
What is unique that's not in your bio?
I am a fact geek- seriously, people call me a walking encyclopedia. If you give me a topic, I can tell you a fact!
Did you know that triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number thirteen?
Did you know that whales were once land mammals?
What's your favorite accomplishment?
So far, I am most proud of my involvement in the cancer Ride to Conquer Cancer cycling fundraiser for cancer research. Not only have I raised $20,000 over four years (and counting), but I conquered my own fear of bicycles to participate in the 200km bike ride when I was 17.
How do you define cool?
I believe in beng cool for a purpose; improving someones life, making people smile and making the world a more beautiful place. Hip is temporary, cool is forever.
What is your secret to uncovering trends?
Reading. Getting on the internet and browsing odd websites for undiscovered artists, filmmakers, designers, inventors, and chefs. Looking at online magazines around the world. Using websites like StumbleUpon and Pinterest. But most of all, trusting my own instincts and not letting what someone says is cool define what I think is trendy.
What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?
Other authors bring trends from all interests onto one website. There is literally something for everyone and always a new trend to discover.
What is your favorite trend?
New food trends in butchery and global cuisine.
What are your tips for writing a juicy post?
Make it personal. If you are excited about a trend or product, it will show in your writing and get readers excited.
How do you reset to be creative?
Creativity is partly inspiration and inspiration can come from anywhere. Luckily I live in a country that has all four seasons, so I try to get outside before I have a creative burst and draw inspiration from nature, the new season, and the changing colours of the canadian landscape, what food I get hungry for and what clothes I want to wear. The overall mood of the time of year really changes what I'm interested in and how I want to write.
What inspires or excites you?
seeing little kids eat adventurously- its never to early to develop a taste for good food!
Predict something awesome for 2020?
The 2010's were so much about the past; retro came back and everything in food, fashion and design were "moden classics". I really think that 2020 will have a lot more innovation for unique trends- things that have never been seen before. I also believe that there will be more of a global conscience and the success of products and companies will less depend on the inequity of others.
