TESCO has launched new recyclable cardboard packaging for its branded laundry pods. The packaging has a thin plastic liner inside to protect the pods and is composed of more than 90% recycled cardboard. After usage, the cardboard boxes may be discarded in home recycling bins, allowing them to be broken down at recycling plants for further use. Almost four million pieces of plastic over eight lines and 252t of plastic each year are anticipated to be saved thanks to the transition.
“Customers are focused on getting great value right now, but we know that they still want to choose products that use less or no plastic in their packaging. This is one of many changes we’re making to reduce unnecessary plastic from products right across our stores,” said Tesco Group’s quality director Sarah Bradbury.
