12 Questions with Jonathan Chase
1. How do you keep your work on the cutting edge?
I am always in class working on my craft. Currently to keep my creative juices flowing I have been creating content for funnyordie.com and momtv.com and working with a local LA theater lab (in between projects, of course).
2. How do you reset yourself to become creative? Do you have any rituals?
Some say booze. I say 3 days with my family. My fam and I are very close. They always know how to get me back to square one.
4. How did you get involved in acting and what motivates you to continue?
I got involved in acting when I studied abroad in London. I fell in love with theater so I moved to New York and worked Off Broadway until I ended up being flown out to LA to work on a pilot. I never looked back. What keeps me going is the idea that any project you have the opportunity to work on can CHANGE YOUR LIFE. All it takes is one show or film that warrants a unique response from its audience and you just take off. That’s the beauty behind Hollywood. It’s the “what if.”
5. How significant are the topics of cool hunting and trend spotting in the world of entertainment?
Movies and TV cost money to make. A huge portion of the financing for this industry is from corporations that depend on our entertainment to start those trends. So I would say hugely significant.
6. How do you define cool?
How would I define cool? Hehe, I guess I would ask someone who I think is cooler than me. I don’t consider myself to be very ‘cool.’ I’m more the jokester geek type. Which apparently to some people is considered cool. I’m gonna say that cool is when your brain doesn’t get in the way of your ability to seize moments. I just read what I wrote and realized why I am not cool, hehe.
7. How do you define a trend?
A trend is when more than one person, style, idea, behavior, or any one thing becomes aware to the public. Hopefully it’s a good trend. Like iPhone apps. Or slap bracelets from the 90s (wink).
8. What is the coolest aspect about your upcoming movie?
The most intriguing part of GAMER is that it’s a movie and a video game melded together in a full-out action adventure. Log in and log on and get your mind blown!
9. Professionally, what do you want to be doing in 10 years?
I see myself having a family and that is going to have some effect on what type of work I want them to see. I really enjoy the multi-camera sitcom format. I also love indie film. Ideally, I want to be working on material that fuels me in life. I wanna push the envelope at the same time.
10. If you weren’t in entertainment, what would your dream profession be?
If I wasn’t an actor I’d be dead. I came into college thinking I would be a sports agent. I interned in Atlanta for one of the biggest agents worldwide, but it wasn’t for me.
12. If you could work with anyone in the world, who would it be and what would you do?
I want to be in a movie with Javier Bardem. The man is a genius.
