Two years ago, our Chief Trend Hunter, Jeremy Gutsche, wrote about Ikea using 'immersion advertising' in Swedish Subways. I looked into it further and learned that this Ikea tactic is now being used beyond Sweden.
Ikea has pushed its marketing initiative to Japan and converted the Kobe Portliner Monorail into a showroom before the April 14 opening of a new retail outlet at Port Island. The redecorated train, which featured a colorful exterior, bright upholstery and fancy curtains, carried passengers in style.
I hope this carries on to North America, some of those subway trains need some stylish attention.
