I’m very grateful to be lucky enough to not have any food allergies, but millions of people do, making eating out a bit difficult sometimes, but with the Food Allergen Detector, that may soon change.
Many of the things in food that people are allergic to are hard to detect, like soy, for instance, but this handy little device can do it for you. The Food Allergen Detector is a collaboration emerging from Philips health care products at the Umea Institute of Design.
The device is quite simple to use. All you have to do is place it over a dish of food and it will scan the ingredients for you and let you know if any allergens are detected. According to the researchers behind the Food Allergen Detector, “There are eight types of food that account for around 90% of allergic reactions: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat.” This device will detect those for you so you can enjoy your meal worry-free.
