Abandoned buildings, ghost towns and even empty billboards left to stand neglected for years: All of these are part of our fast-paced culture. Structures are left vacant for many reasons; foreclosure, environmental disasters or, like in the case of the billboards in Brazil, altered business practices.
Seriously curious individuals practice a pastime called ‘Urban Exploration.’ These folk travel the world in search of abandoned structures and, upon gaining access to their inner spaces, take fantastic and often eerie photographs of what they find.
This is a collection of some of the most interesting examples of such abandoned places, a few which have since been given a new life with a different purpose.
